GOP hopefuls avoid specifics in response to Obama
WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican presidential hopefuls are short on specifics when it comes to trying to stop President Barack Obama’s order blocking deportation for millions of immigrants, although they’re making it clear they are against it.
Former Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania is urging the Republican leadership in Congress to use any means available, without specifying his preference.
Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky says he won’t sit idly by, but hasn’t said what he’ll do instead.
Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas , for one, says the Senate should block most of Obama’s nominees as long as the order is in place.
The general reticence comes at a point in the political calendar when White House contenders normally would be trying to set themselves apart from rivals in the competition for support from party activists.
