At least 1 teacher killed, 20 students wounded in school attack in Damascus

Damascus, May 20 (EFE) .- At least one teacher was killed and some 20 students were wounded on Wednesday after several mortar shells targeted a school in central Damascus, activists and Syrian official media reported.

State television indicated that “terrorists” fired several rockets at a school in the capital, killing a female teacher and wounding 23 students.

However the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that 20 students were wounded, and that two shells landed in a school in the neighborhood of al-Malaki, in the heart of Damascus, but it didn’t elaborate on who was behind the attacks.

The capital is often targeted by opposition groups in Eastern Ghouta, the main stronghold of the rebels on the outskirts of the city.

Syria has been the scene of long-standing, horrendous conflict since March 2011, and according to the United Nations has left more than 220,000 people dead. EFE
